Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College Consortium, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Modern/ Contemporary Dance to begin July 1, 2014.

We seek a dance artist/scholar actively engaged in the practice and theory of modern/contemporary dance with a record of excellence as a performer-choreographer and educator. Excellence in teaching modern/contemporary dance technique and choreography-composition at all levels of instruction is required. Desirable subfields include Laban Movement Analysis, dance science, and additional dance techniques. Other areas of interest such as experimental or site-specific choreography, dance in the community, and dance history and performance studies would be welcome. The ideal candidate will integrate technical, creative, historical, cultural and scientific dimensions of dance into his or her teaching, and will have a broad knowledge of current practices and discourse in dance. An MFA (or its equivalent) in dance is required. Applicants should demonstrate an aptitude for innovative undergraduate teaching and advising, and the ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multidisciplinary campus community. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to choreograph/set work on students, serve as artistic director of dance concerts, mentor student choreography and research, collaborate on the vision, design and management of the Hampshire Dance Program and help advance the mission of the Five College Dance Department.

• The candidate should be someone actively involved in his or her own artistic practice.

• Experience in somatic and investigative body work, improvisation and choreography a plus.

• We are seeking a candidate who has solid experience of teaching activity on the highest international level, the ability and willingness to engage in close collaborations with colleagues and students and a commitment to investing in the development of the young dancer.

Salary and terms of employment:

The position being offered is for 24 hours a week. The position begins on January 1st 2011 and is a time-limited 2-year contract with the possibility of extension.

The contract will be made on an individual basis and salaries will be fixed in compliance with the Danish Ministry of Finance regulation of June 22nd, 1994, in which the starting salary is 15.375,10 DKK per month (24 hours) and the final salary is 20.429,03 DKK per month (24 hours).

Description

Lehman Center for the Performing Arts— the premier concert hall in the Bronx — boasts a 2300 seat, state-of-the-art concert hall and multi-disciplinary arts center. The diverse programming includes world class salsa and tropical music, headlining entertainers like Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight, world music and dance, and touring Broadway musical productions.

Lehman Center seeks an experienced senior-level Director of Marketing, Sales and Public Relations to provide energetic, creative, strategic leadership in marketing and promoting the Center and its diverse program. Although The Director has a consultant status they will be a vital component of the senior management team, directing all of Lehman Center’s communication efforts, including marketing and promotion, media relations, public information, and audience development.

Responsibilities

The Director’s primary areas of responsibility are to spearhead the development and implementation of innovative, effective, multi-pronged marketing and sales efforts focusing on both short- and long-term goals; to successfully promote Lehman Center’s events regionally and to maximize revenues through paid admissions, ticket sales, media sponsorships, and other sources; and to sustain and expand Lehman Center’s various audiences.

Requirements

Other requirements include:

$ degree (advanced degree preferred) in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field;

$ 5+ years of experience in marketing/communications, including senior management experience;

$ demonstrated success in planning and conducting major marketing, advertising and communications campaigns;

$ facility at developing effective working relationships—internal and external—and implementing non-media-based community relations efforts;

$ knowledge of citywide and national arts and audience trends;

$ extensive experience with communications, ideally in a large, high profile organization;

$ excellent research, writing, and organizational skills;

$ excellent public speaking and presentation skills;

$ ability to direct, supervise, and motivate staff and consultants;

$ fluent in Spanish;

$ ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment; and a high level of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Skills

The ideal candidate will possess extraordinary energy, drive, and vision. Experience within the cultural sector, specifically Latino and African American popular music, performing arts, knowledge of the Bronx and Bronx audiences is highly desirable, as is a vested interest and history of success using alternative and online approaches to marketing—web-based promotions, social media, relational marketing, and developing innovative partnerships to implement collaborative efforts.
