Dance New Amsterdam has some bright ideas for you

IDEAS CITY explores the future of cities around the globe with the belief that arts and culture are essential to the vitality of urban centers, making them better places to live, work, and play. Founded by the New Museum in 2011, IDEAS CITY is a major collaborative initiative between hundreds of arts, education, and community organizations. This year’s theme is Untapped Capital, with participants focused on resources that are under-recognized or underutilized in our cities.

Quite appropriately, then, Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) will partner with IDEAS CITY 2013 for a full day of performance, engagement and fun. Learn more here and get involved!

Jill Johnston and the Critic as Subject

Critical Correspondence co-editors Aaron Mattocks and Marissa Perel honor the celebrated writer and critic Jill Johnston, whose experimental and personal voice communicated the culture of the interdisciplinary 1960s art scene. In light of Johnston’s innovative contributions to the form, this conversation considers contemporary criticism and the writer as subject. Speakers include David Velasco (critic for Artforum) and Claudia La Rocco (critic for the New York Times). The event culminates as Movement Research artists perform readings of reviews on dance and performance.

Starting the new year right

One day, the winter holidays will be over. The tree trimmings and Nutcracker productions will be tucked away for another year. And, you'll look around and realize it's that sad little unloved period ot time called early January. And you'll say to yourself, "Gee, I'm think I'm about ready for some cutting-edge performance!"

And that's where APAP comes in!

Each year, New York's artists and venues set up shows specifically targeting performing arts presenters, from all over America and abroad, attending the APAP Conference. These shows are a great way to catch up on work that you missed during previous seasons or to get another good look at dances that continue to intrigue you.
