Dance/USA, the voice for the professional field of dance, offers internships to aspiring arts administrators based at the national office, located in Washington, DC.

Intern for the new advocacy organization, Collective for Dance Writing and New Media as part of our talented Leadership Circle.

We’re looking for a few more smart, creative, community-minded interns to help us build this dynamic initiative in the dance and dance-writer communities. (See our Vision and Mission Statements).

ADMINISTRATIVE PROJECTS

Interns will work in support of a variety of essential projects in the following areas:

    Communications: community outreach, publicity, website management, e-newsletter editing and production, social media management, blog editing, podcast hosting/production, speakers bureau management

    Events: collaboration with community organizations, planning, coordination, facilitation and support

    Finance: financial administration and development

    Membership Services: outreach/recruitment, benefits, members-only trainings and other members-only events

We’ll be happy to arrange a weekly schedule and selection of tasks (plus assistance at occasional events) that will be comfortable and useful for you. You need not have a background in journalism or dance writing to qualify for this internship, but this opportunity will be ideal for candidates with interest in dance or other arts.

TIME COMMITMENT AND BENEFITS

In exchange for a six-month commitment, you will receive a one-year membership in CollectiveDWNM entitling you to free or discounted admission to all of our events and workshops, including members-only events and trainings, and our members-only bi-weekly newsletter (coming soon).

LEIMAY-CAVE seeks writers for new online publication

LEIMAY-CAVE is currently seeking writers for its online publication,conectom. The aim of the project is to report and comment on new developments in visual arts performance, contemporary performance, hybrid stage and installation works.

As a writer, you will make contributions ranging from interviews, reviews, essays, and development journals. You will be in contact with LEIMAY-CAVE’s local and international network in addition to any individual projects you are interested in proposing. A strong concentration for conectom is the adaptation of critique style to contemporary works. This means doing away with traditional theater or visual art criticism when writing about contemporary performance, visual performance art or other hybrid works. As such, you will be expected to learn a new perspective when writing about performative works, be it considering your position as a spectator or situating the works you are writing about within their proper context.

We are seeking persons with a strong interest in contemporary performance and visual art performance. Writing experience is preferred, but a strong ambition to become involved in the performance medium is just as important. Our tentative launch date for the writing series is September 15th. From then on, we aim to maintain a well-updated publication, therefore we ask that you submit one article every three weeks (Occasional writers are also called please feel free to apply and specify your interest).

conectom is an artist/audience network and online publication focusing on visual arts performance, contemporary performance and hybrid stage works. conectom features an artist directory with a permanent and rotating portfolio display, community forums, interviews, written and photographic essays, development journals, and an ever-updated, curated calendar of performance events in New York City.

Theater group Organic Magnetics recruiting interns, volunteers

Organic Magnetics seeks interns for its upcoming programs.

Organic Magnetics (OM) is an emerging theater arts organization that creates live installations and educational programming connecting dance, music, drama and design sustainably.

Organic Magnetics premieres a live installation at Fort Tryon Park, August 3-5 and 7-12, 2012. Ghosts of Manhattan traces New York City's cultural evolution over five hundred years, from native land in 1512 to global metropolis in 2012. This is an interactive walk-through theater experience of New York City in 5 centuries.

We need a few dedicated interns and volunteers!

Interns will assist theater professionals in technical rehearsals, load in and strike and the theatrical run of Ghosts of Manhattan. This internship will be a quick and intense experience. Interns are needed daily from July 30 to August 14 for the run of the installation. Interns will be paired with mentors, having the opportunity to learn about all areas of the production including directing, lighting, sound, video and administration. Interns will receive brief training and are expected to be quick on their feet and respond to needs as they arise. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone exploring a career in theater arts that wants to help an arts organization pull off a spectacular community based production. This is an unpaid position and can lead to future opportunities with OM.

Arts-in-Education internships with Dancing in the Streets

DANCING IN THE STREETS seeks an arts-in-education intern (May and June 2008).

Assist teaching artist in the classroom during two 3-week dance residencies at PS/MS 27 in Red Hook, Brooklyn

• Prepare the classroom before and after the session
• Make daily arrangements with the school to facilitate the sessions
• Create written program for student performances, which will include students’ writings.
• Assist Dancing in the Streets staff in preparation for Hip Hop Generation Next Block

The residencies

From May 27-June 14, 2008, teaching artist Adia Whitaker (Artistic Director of Ase Dance Theatre Collective) and ASE’s percussionist, Sekou Alájé will conduct two 3-week intensive dance residencies—for 5th and 6th grades—at PS/MS 27 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Both residencies will culminate in a public performance by the students on June 14, 2008, at the Hip Hop Generation Next community wide block party in Red Hook’s Coffey Park, which will include performances by professional dance companies.

Qualifications

Experience in dance and/or in working with children. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Hours

Full time internship. Time will be divided between the school and Dancing in the Streets’ office in midtown Manhattan.

Internships for Critical Correspondence

Critical Correspondence is looking for a person or two to help with content, administrative and technical tasks through Movement Research's internship program. Starting immediately, the position will entail a minimum of 10 hours/week (flexible, with a preference for Tuesday mornings) and will run through the summer and possibly beyond. A candidate for this position should be interested in dance discourse, be familiar with web-based publications and have knowledge of website maintenance and related softwares, including video, image and sound. The intern will work closely with CC Editors, Levi Gonzalez and Alejandra Martorell, in the development and production of content, maintenance of the site and research.
