The Dance Program at Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a new Director who is an accomplished teacher for our distinguished program in Dance. The successful candidate will be a prominent and active dance artist with proven achievement in choreography and performance, an established teaching practice and administrative experience. An advanced degree in the field is desired, or its professional equivalent. Familiarity with dance in a liberal arts curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students is essential. Dancing in the Streets, a 31-year not-for-profit producer of free, public, adventurous performances in unexpected places—that has been based in the South Bronx since 2011—is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and visionary Managing Director who will build upon and further develop the organization’s mission to commission, produce, and present dance, interdisciplinary, site-specific, and community-based performances that transform the experience of a place; nurture artists; and serve as catalysts for building community and developing safe, vibrant, and economically sound neighborhoods that reflect and foster their distinct character, values, and cultures.
The Managing Director will work closely with a team of curators on planning future programs and on shepherding ongoing projects that contribute to the cultural renaissance of the Bronx through site-specific dance; and through collaborative initiatives (supported by the NEA, the NYC Dept. Of Cultural Affairs, City Council, and the NYC Mayor’s Office) that foster cultural exchange among grass roots, street, immigrant, and contemporary artists. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will be responsible for board recruitment and development; donor cultivation; fundraising; fiscal and staff management; and strengthening existing and developing new arts, community, and business partnerships.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit; a broad vision; a passion for the arts and for community engagement; excellent fundraising, fiscal management, and managerial skills; excellent writing and interpersonal skills; and a minimum of three years of comparable experience.

This program is endorsed by first class international arts managers such as Daniel Lamarre (CEO, Cirque du Soleil), Glenn D. Lowry (Director, MoMA) or Sergio Escobar (Director, Piccolo Teatro), only to name a few (see the program's International Advisory Committee), and is offered jointly by the Meadows School of Arts of Southern Methodist University in Dallas (USA), HEC Montréal (Canada) and SDA Bocconi in Milan (Italy).

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College Consortium, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Modern/ Contemporary Dance to begin July 1, 2014.
We seek a dance artist/scholar actively engaged in the practice and theory of modern/contemporary dance with a record of excellence as a performer-choreographer and educator. Excellence in teaching modern/contemporary dance technique and choreography-composition at all levels of instruction is required. Desirable subfields include Laban Movement Analysis, dance science, and additional dance techniques. Other areas of interest such as experimental or site-specific choreography, dance in the community, and dance history and performance studies would be welcome. The ideal candidate will integrate technical, creative, historical, cultural and scientific dimensions of dance into his or her teaching, and will have a broad knowledge of current practices and discourse in dance. An MFA (or its equivalent) in dance is required. Applicants should demonstrate an aptitude for innovative undergraduate teaching and advising, and the ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multidisciplinary campus community. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to choreograph/set work on students, serve as artistic director of dance concerts, mentor student choreography and research, collaborate on the vision, design and management of the Hampshire Dance Program and help advance the mission of the Five College Dance Department.
The Hampshire College Dance Program is a member of the Five College Dance Department, comprised of the programs at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This consortium makes the FCDD the largest dance program in New England. The FCDD curriculum encourages students to balance performance and creative studies with a broad understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of different dance traditions. They may shape their studies in either traditional or interdisciplinary ways, reflecting the wide range of career options and new directions of the contemporary field. The Department offers over 100 courses a year, numerous performing opportunities and a performing arts calendar equal to a major metropolis.

The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics at New York University is now accepting applications for its fourth year of EMERGENYC, the Hemispheric New York Emerging Performers Program focused on “artivist” (artist/activist) performance.
EMERGENYC aims to support the development of “hemispheric” emerging artists through a program of workshops and events between April 20 and July 13, 2013.
We seek talented, committed and highly motivated young performers/activists/artists whose work functions as a vehicle for political expression and social change, and who examine the broad range of identities, practices and histories of the Americas (the western hemisphere, thus “hemispheric”) through genres such as spoken word, street performance, political cabaret, performance art, video performance, movement, and others.

EMERGENYC welcomes applicants outside of the New York area, provided that they are able to be in the city during the full time of the program (April-July). Downtown Dance Learning Circles are facilitated peer-to-peer resource sharing groups that meet regularly. Within the circles, dancemakers present their challenges to each other and brainstorm solutions together.
Each Learning Circle is made up of eight dancemakers at similar career stages, providing an opportunity to solve problems, share resources, build relationships, and move your work forward.

Marymount Manhattan College seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Dance, with specialization in Dance History/Theory beginning September 1, 2013. The Dance Department currently enrolls 185 BFA/BA majors. The curriculum includes a broad range of dance styles preparing graduates to perform in diverse venues from ballet to musical theatre and supplements technical training with eight areas of concentration.
Responsibilities include teaching, participation in student assessment and academic advisement, cultivation of interest in Dance Studies, administrative assignments as determined by the Chair of the Dance Department, curriculum development, recruitment activities, scholarly activity, college-wide service.
Required: MFA or PhD in Dance; college-level teaching experience in dance history and critical theory, and one or more of the following areas: movement analysis, cultural studies, dance and technology, dance education, or dance ethnography; a demonstrable interest in interdisciplinary connections among visual arts, dance, theatre, and music; an understanding of international developments in the field of dance; and a commitment to teaching within a liberal arts, urban undergraduate setting.

Diverse Voices in Docs is a professional development and mentorship program for emerging documentary filmmakers of color, organized by Kartemquin Films and the Community Film Workshop of Chicago. At the core of the program are six engaging three-hour workshops at the Community Film Workshop, with creative advice provided by Kartemquin Films’ world-class staff and associates. Each session will provide practical skill-enrichment designed to help incubate your next documentary project, as well as time to network and share experience with your cohort of participants. Applicants should be filmmakers who have played a principal role in a completed production (producer, writer, director, editor, etc.) and have experience or work history that demonstrated their commitment to social issue documentary. We will facilitate continued engagement throughout the six-month workshop program, and connect you to an expert community, new collaborators, and a wider network of funders and distributors. The program will culminate in exposure through a final public exhibition in late 2013.Applications are now open.
