DiP: New residency program at Gibney Dance

Gibney Dance Center launches another innovative program for New York's dance comunity--DiP, a new residency designed to provide continuous access to a studio space and production office to mid-career NYC-based dance makers. Artists will be selected for residencies of 2-4 weeks at Gibney Dance Center beginning in September 2012.

Hybrid Cinema presents the New York theatrical premiere of Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance on Friday, April 27 at New York’s Cinema Village. The 90-minute documentary--directed by Bob Hercules (Bill T. Jones: A Good Man) and narrated by Mandy Patinkin--traces how Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino reimagined and redefined ballet for new audiences and engaged contemporary dance choreographers such as Twyla Tharp and Laura Dean.

The one-week engagement will include several Q&As with the filmmakers and other guests immediately following weekend screenings. VOD/DVD/digital release is scheduled for June, 2012 through New Video.

After great enthusiasm and sold out performances at our Festival in 2011, the American Dance Guild (ADG) continues its mission of serving artists and audiences. For our 2012 Performance Festival, we invite applications from contemporary dance artists of diverse backgrounds, ages and aesthetics throughout the United States and internationally.

Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater is a terrific performance space (26'x35') with an audience capacity of 275. Four different programs will be presented during the festival on Thursday through Sunday, September 6-9.

Culturebot’s got the EPHEMERAL EVIDENCE

Arturo Vidich, Sarah A.O. Rosner and Witness Relocation's Dan Safer, Kaz Phillips Safer and Mike Mikos are just a handful of the hardrockers involved in EPHEMERAL EVIDENCE, Culturebot's multifaceted extravaganza at Exit Art.

Ephemeral Evidence consists of a series of collaborative explorations between writers and performing artists to investigate the relationship between practice and skill in performance-making, object-making and context. We propose an experiment in which objects are created directly from the result of the performing artist’s practice--their skilled application of learned techniques. Does the object, existing as residue of the ephemeral event, gain meaning as document or value object in itself? Both? How does the critical dialogue around the performance process and object inform our perception and valuation of the art?

The installations will be durational throughout the day with culminating performances at 5PM.

Seeking Latina artists for Dixon Place show

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am embarking on an exciting collaboration with Dixon Place--an artist theater located in the heart of the Lower East Side, NY--and need your help!

I will be curating a show on October 16 (7:30pm), with a focus on presenting works from female, Latina performers (dance, music, poetry, performance art, etc).  I am reaching out to you for your recommendations and suggestions as to who would have an interest in and would be a good candidate for this event.  My goal is to find 4 to 6 diverse female, Latina artists from all over New York and beyond to take part in DP's first ever event of this kind!

Dixon Place is a non-for-profit organization that was established in 1986 and has remained true to it's mission since its inception - to support and nurture the development of new work and work in progress from diverse artists and to build new audiences for their work.  I encourage you to visit www.dixonplace.org to read its mission statement in its entirety and to familiarize yourself with the theater and its diverse and interesting programming. 

Those artist chosen to perform at this event will get the opportunity to present a 10-15 minute work, receive a small artist stipend, an hour of free non-tech rehearsal, plus an hour-long tech rehearsal on the day of the show.

PLEASE help me spread the word around so that talented female Latina artists can present and share their work and expand their audience!
