Brooklyn dance-aerial troupe to hold audtion for dancers of color

photos courtesy of Fly-By-Night Dance Theater

Julie Ludwick's Fly-By-Night Dance Theater--noted for its combination of modern and aerial dance--invites dancers of color to audition on Sunday, January 12 (4:15-6:15pm). The company's free audition class is open to all serious dancers of color who are interested in exploring aerial dance.

Ludwick writes, "Each year we pick a small group of dancers to do a 3-class workshop with us and, from that group, we select a few dancers to continue to study with us through the year."

Amy Greenfield's "Untitled Nude"

Untitled Nude--a solo exhibition of three short films by Amy Greenfield, curated by Lynn del Sol--runs through February 12 at creative thriftshop @ Dam Stuhltrager Gallery in Williamsburg.

In her focus on the female nude--bound by strands of pearls or emerging out of waves or mud--Greenfield brings us a vision of something ancient, vital and occasionally dissonant captured and encased by contemporary technology. Will the body will ultimately triumph over newfangled flat screen tv? Or will it remain trapped? An interesting consideration for makers and lovers of dance, given our current artistic 'twixt/'tween moment.

Works on view:

M-Plateau: Koosil-ja's rehearsal space for rent in Williamsburg

[Editor's Note: Please note Koosil-ja's downward revision of her rental rate. She has also decided to name her space M-Plateau.]

An announcement from dancer-choreographer Koosil-ja:

Hello friends,

I am in a process to sign a lease for 1,000 sq ft space at 195 Morgan Avenue, 3rd floor of 3rd Ward. I would have to store 30 TVs and other goods in this space, so the actual space for your use would be 700 sq ft.

I am thinking to rent it out by hour, with the rate of $5. The space will be available starting September. It is 24/7 access.

Let me know if you have any question or are interested to rent. I'd appreciate your support and please spread the word.

Thanks.
koosil-ja
