Get "Drenched"

Seeking romance? Get Drenched with Luke Murphy and Carlye Eckert.

Ireland-born Murphy--most recently seen here in Sleep No More and Pavel Zuštiak's Painted Bird III: Strange Cargo--presents a preview of his own choreography--a duet with Eckert, at Tribeca Performing Arts Center, June 6-7. The two head to Dublin in September for the work's world premiere and are planning its New York premiere for the La MaMa Moves Festival next spring.

Drenched, Murphy says, "investigates the gulf between the representations and realities of romance in contemporary society...Drenched examines a world of contradictions, parodies, uncertainties and the fundamental search for companionship."

Video artist David Fishel contributes a multi-channel projection installation.

INSPIRIT: dreaming and becoming

While the glorious Ailey troupe celebrates its 50th anniversary uptown, up-and-coming Christal Brown's INSPIRIT, a dance company has been kicking up a fuss about its 5th anniversary downtown at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. The repertory series--called Dreams and Visions, named for the troupe's world premiere piece--concludes this evening at 8pm.

Brown, who has performed with Urban Bush Women and other notable ensembles, has also grown into an inventive, spicy soloist whose slices of personal revelation blend kickass assertiveness with accessibility. In that vein, her recent solo Take That is best on the bill here, but I think you might also enjoy Until Fruition--a 2004 trio set to the supple, lilting voice of Mali's Oumou Sangare and offered, with delicate fluidity, by dancers Beatrice Capote, Alexandra Joye Houston and Toni Renee Johnson.

Falcon Project takes wing at LGBT Center

Ellis Wood Dance will offer members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community a chance to participate in free dance workshops and performances of the Falcon Project: A Meditation on Movement and Gender Identity. The company will present a five-week workshop series at the LGBT Community Center in Manhattan. Meeting once a week for two hours, these workshops will culminate in a video documentary and a performance at Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City.

No previous dance experience needed. All age groups and gender identities are welcome.

Workshop orientation: Sept. 23, 6pm-7pm at the LGBT Center (208 W. 13th Street. Manhattan, 212-620-7310) Please note: If you can't make it to the orientation, you are still welcome to join us for the workshops.

Ellis Wood's Falcon Project to take wing at New York's LGBT Center

Ellis Wood Dance will offer members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community a chance to participate in free dance workshops and performances of the Falcon Project: A Meditation on Movement and Gender Identity.

The company will give two four-week workshops at the LGBT Community Center in Manhattan. Meeting once a week for two hours, these workshops will culminate in a video documentary and a performance at the Center in April. An excerpt will be shown at the Dancers Responding to AIDS benefit on Fire Island in July, and the work will receive its official premiere this fall at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
