Eva Yaa Asantewaa
InfiniteBody is the best Blog for dance/theater/music in NYC. Amazing dance reviews. I don't get to go out and see everything. Eva Yaa Asantewaa
ReplyDeletereviews make me feel like i was in the room. She is involved with a wide and varied selection of artist around the city. Her voice is so important. She keeps us in the loop.
With her blog, InfiniteBody, Eva Yaa Asantewaa brings both a critical rigor and a fantastically human excitement to the field of dance criticism. Her work is at once compassionate, inquisitive, holistic, passionate, well-formed, fierce, and balanced. As one of the few critics who speaks both as a reviewer and as a champion of the dance community, her insights and questions hold both critical weight and authentic agency as a voice of our times that transcends traditional separations of critic and artist.
ReplyDeleteHer ability to transcend this imposed (and perhaps increasingly less useful) divide makes her both part of the dance community, and truly effective and interesting in her writing. She is a champion not of her own opinions, favorite artists, or ideas, but of the importance, love, and evolution of the form as a whole.
Amazingly informative and useful blog! I depend on InfiniteBody to keep me informed on what's going on in New York and oh-so-many other things. As one small recent example, Eva posted a call for submissions for itch, an LA-based dance journal. I wasn't familiar with the publication, checked it out, signed up for a hard copy subscription, and have already passed my copy around to friends. Eva helps the dance community thrive!
ReplyDeleteA vote for you! :)
ReplyDeleteSarah Rosner said it eloquently. InfiniteBody is my only source for dance. Must read, must have.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading your original and well-considered perspectives on dance. Even though I don't get out as much as I'd like to, I always feel like I got a "taste" of the piece you're reviewing—its textures and contours and spirit. I think you walk a difficult line between rigorous criticism and generosity of spirit, and I so appreciate that in a world of easy snarkery and soft-mindedness.
ReplyDeleteOf all the dance blogs on my blog roll, Eva Yaa Asantewaa's InfiniteBody is the one I visit most regularly. Why? Because Eva not only reports what is happening, she also reveals why I should care with discernment for quality, fairness in critique and an obvious passion for the craft.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your new posts every day! Keep 'em coming, Eva.
ReplyDeleteI live in the heart if the Midwest...Kansas! While I love the people and the community...I would hate to live here without this magical conduit into the heart of NYC dance. I love Infinite Body! Thank you Eva for this creative inspiration and intelligent voice.
ReplyDeleteInfiniteBody is a tremendously informative, beautifully written blog that is a boon to all of us in the contemporary dance world. Eva Yaa Asantewaa is a truly thoughtful observer of dance and the dance community and a vivid writer/reviewer as well. She's a booster who also maintain high standards. Her generosity of time and effort is unmatched. Brava to Eva!
ReplyDeleteWho besides Eva can boast more than a quarter century of experience AND a sustainable model of dance criticism in the age of citizen journalism? Instead of disappearing, she found her way in this craft, to the benefit of us all.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have my vote for the news/criticism category :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog Eva. Not only does the courage and broad-mindedness you disply there nourish, inspire and inform me, but it has helped to re-connect me to the world of dance, which I thought I had left for good not so very long ago. Thank you!

The combination of an astute cultural clipping service, pointed criticism and a dose of humor -- Eva's blog is always worth reading.
ReplyDeleteEva Yaa Asantewaa writes from the heart. Her devotion to dance and all those involved in the world of dance shines through the words on her blog. Always ready to support, encourage, guide and honestly critique, Eva is the best! Her blog, InfiniteBody, provides much needed coverage for a very vital art.
ReplyDeleteI would be doing the dance community a disservice if I didn't send some vote love for InfiniteBody
ReplyDeleteI am so appreciative of your consistently thoughtful writing, Eva! I regularly turn to Infinite Body to check out what you're seeing, thinking, saying....many many thanks!
ReplyDeleteEva and her blog are my window into the dance world. Her passion, commitment, and engagement reignite my own enthusiasm for the arts, and she often seems to either break new ground or sound the alert on dance issues before they break into the mainstream media. In reading what she has to say about dance, I find my heart opened to all the most important things in the whole wide world. She is a great resource.
